Skate Circus 10/19/2024

A Roller Skate Extravaganza!

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the A-Town Alliance hosted its first-ever Skate Circus at the Auburn Skate Park. The event, running from 1 PM until sunset, was a celebration of skating, creativity, and community, drawing skaters of all ages and disciplines to showcase their skills in a vibrant circus-themed competition.

The park's volcano feature was transformed into a colorful circus platform, setting the stage for contestants to perform their 30-second runs. Each skater had the opportunity to choose their own music, with a playlist as eclectic as the skaters themselves—featuring songs by Fergie, Devo, Serj Tankian, Talking Heads, and even some classic circus clown music. The event celebrated the multigenerational love of skating, with contestants ranging from 7 to 50+ years old. Skaters traveled to Auburn from nearby towns like Meadow Vista, Grass Valley, Sacramento, Nevada City, Colfax, and Jackson, showcasing the regional pull of this unique event.

Categories and Winners:

The competition had four major categories, with skaters from various disciplines (park skaters, trail skaters, and derby skaters) competing for trophies:

- “Speedy” Award: Bowie from Auburn Outlaws Roller Derby took this trophy, also earning a bonus for “Best Bail” for her determination throughout the day.

- “Best Trick” (Quad Comp): Savanna Tracy claimed the top spot with a standout performance.

- “Best Run”: Devon, AKA "TANK," also from Auburn Outlaws, wowed the crowd by starting her run with an iconic spine transfer.

- “Best Style”: Ashley Wiversol dazzled the audience with her exceptional skills.

The event also featured an exhilarating obstacle course including a live-action “Noodle Forest” with three levels:

1. Easy Rollers: A flat lap around the park through the noodle forest, with many skaters jumping through the ring of fire! Dash from Crush Roller Shop took home the win.

2. Cool Cruisers: This course included the park’s inner section and a jump through the ring of fire. Hollie Dilly, owner of Crush Roller Shop, claimed victory.

3. Heavy Hitters: Skaters started from the bleachers for maximum speed, with Francis, AKA Abominatrix, taking the win from Holly of Crush Roller Shop in the head-to-head final-final through the ring of fire.

And last, but certainly not least, the skateboarders had their moment with a Best Trick contest, where Jon Camalluci earned the trophy for his repeated clears of the ring of fire while set atop the volcano.

Fundraising for the Park:

The event also served a larger purpose: raising funds to add lights to the park, allowing for winter skating when it gets dark early. A raffle was held with generous donations from S1 Helmets, Crush Roller Shop, Fat & the Moon, Strubdrry, Auburn Outlaws Roller Derby, Floof Cotton Candy, Tor’s Quad Shop, Grillo’s Pickles, Lighthouse Tattoo Auburn, Maddysun’s Grooming, Yeti Ice Cream, and Old Town Pizza Auburn. Thanks to the community's generosity, A-Town Alliance raised $470 towards the park lights through the raffle and pizza sales.

With the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community, A-Town Alliance is thrilled with the success of the first Skate Circus and looks forward to continuing to grow and host more unique events for the Auburn Community in the nearest future.
